God Elected Obama and Other Lies That Christians Tell…

October 4, 2012

If I hear one more Christian make lame excuses for not voting, I’m going to lose my ever lovin’ mind.

In most elections in the United States, less than 25% of Christians turn out to vote. (SOURCE: U.S. Census and Statistics)

That means 75% of the Christian community DO NOT VOTE.

Yet, they enjoy their religious freedoms, don’t they? Those religious freedoms that allow them to be so super spiritual that they are simply blinded to evil around them. Must be nice.

Voting is not something you do every day. At MOST it’s twice a year at times and at least, it’s every 2-4-6 years.

Nevertheless, they have better things to do. I mean, it’s ONLY our country at stake. No biggie. And if you ask them about it, they have the very best argument and excuses for not voting.

And by very best, I mean the ABSOLUTE WORST EXCUSES EVER.

You’ve heard the excuses that come from the lazy and/or super spiritual folks out there.

Here are the excuses used most often: (and they’re ALWAYS the same)

  • I’m not worried about this fleshly and secular world. I’m only worried about heavenly things and politics don’t further the kingdom of God.
  • It’s the end times and we know there will be trials and tribulations, and a one world government will take over, so there’s no need in fighting it.
  • Both parties are liars and politics are so corrupt and sinful, a Christian shouldn’t be involved in such things, because it only tarnishes their own spirituality.
  • And MY FAVORITE: God appoints the Kings and rulers that HE wants to rule over us. (So no sense in voting?)

Ok, I am going to address and debunk each one of these theories.

Let’s begin with the first one on the list:

  • I’m not worried about this fleshly and secular world. I’m only worried about heavenly things and politics don’t further the kingdom of God.

MATTHEW 5:13-17 says:
Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. …

WOW. Jesus said that we are the salt of the earth. Cool. It’s funny though, cause I don’t read anywhere where he said “you are the salt of the earth, except in the governmental and political arena.

Government was so important to God, that HE is the one who established secular government on earth (see Genesis for the explanation).

So, we are to be an example and salt of the earth AND the light. We teach our children to let their light shine, but many of us are hypocrites because we let our light shine, until it comes to politics, then under the bushel it goes….

  • These are the end times and we know there will be trials and tribulations, and a one world government will take over, so there’s no need in fighting it.

Mmm’kay, so we follow scripture until we determine (by our own expertise) that it is the end times and then we totally stop following the word of God?

We just lie down and let the devil run free?

The Bible says not to put up with evil and to expose it (Ephesians 5:11, John 3:20) by using our LIGHT

So just because YOU determine that the end times are upon us, then you decide to stop following the admonishment of the Lord? Why? Because we are at the end of the road and you want to be lazy and coast along until the Lord comes?

I am not saying that the end times are right around the corner, nor am I saying that they are 300 years away. What I am saying is this:

First, Jesus said to be more concerned about the state of your soul when the Lord returns than the specific timing.

Second, The Bible says to “occupy until he comes”. That means DON’T STOP AND GIVE UP.

Third, in the Biblical days, they thought the end times were upon them, and almost every generation since then has thought the same thing…. Just in America alone, you can read the sermons, preaching, and diaries from each generation and you can see first hand why they had good reason to believe they were the rapture generation. Revolutionary War, Civil War, droughts, famines, World War I, Great Depression, World War II, and on up through today…One day, someone will be right….but what if all those people before us just GAVE UP and stopped trying because they thought God would return any day?

So, you’re sure the Lord will return next month or next year (and He can) and that nothing matters (for example: VOTING), and there’s nothing we can about anything, therefore, you expect everyone to what? What are you going to do while you’re waiting for the inevitable horror the end times will bring? Maybe you should just sit back and practice the faces you’ll make when you are beheaded…. because it’s coming, you know…..

I mean really…the whole schtick is getting old. No, I’m not doubting that Jesus will return and will return soon, but I’m a little frustrated with the doomsday people….

  • Both parties are liars and politics is so corrupt and sinful, a Christian shouldn’t be involved in such things, because it only tarnishes their own spirituality.

And if government/politics is so dark and evil, then perhaps it needs some people shining their light!

And if it’s evil and corrupt then it’s because CHRISTIANS have settled for it and allowed it to happen by their NON-VOTING.

Of course it’s an evil institution if there are NO GOOD CHRISTIANS willing to be a part. DUH! That creates the epitome of a circular argument. (There are only corrupt people in politics so Christians shouldn’t be involved, but Christians aren’t involved because there are only corrupt people in politics) Gee, maybe the way to stop the corruption is for Christians to get involved.

But, see, there ARE good Christians willing to participate and who ARE a part of the political process. But they’ve been out numbered out at the federal, state and yes…even the local level. They bust their bums to make a difference in government and society, whether they be politicians, activists or extremely well informed citizens who VOTE.

When God created secular (man run) government, OF COURSE he wanted His people to be involved. He created it BECAUSE His own people wanted a man run government….but God didn’t step out of the picture, he set down the rules and layout for the government. So, to say that Christians aren’t to be involved in government because God doesn’t approve, is to simply LIE…. whether or not that’s what you intended, that doesn’t make it any less of a falsehood.

And my favorite excuse of all:

  • God appoints the Kings and rulers that HE wants to rule over us. (So no sense in voting?)

When I hear Christians and even PREACHERS and MINISTERS use scripture to discourage people from involving themselves politically, I want to ask them: “REALLY? Why would you do that? Why would you SAY that? Are you so afraid of losing your beloved tax exempt status that you will literally protect those evil doers in power by not speaking against what they are doing? Here’s a tip for you, no church has EVER lost its tax exempt status for what they have promoted or preached over the pulpit. So trust me, if YOU happen to be that preacher, you will be the FIRST and there are a TON of Christian lawyers and organizations standing at the ready to defend you. Because taxing churches is unconstitutional to begin with. (FIRST AMENDMENT: the state can have no say so in the affairs of the church and what they do or don’t preach, so by threatening the tax exempt status, the state has already crossed that line by trying to wield power over what is preached).

Ok, now the core of this little argument is the scriptures that are used to discourage people from voting/becoming involved.

There are a few and they include:
Romans 13: 1-5
“Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.
For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:
For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.
Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.”

Wow, that seems pretty straight forward, doesn’t it? Yep. And it is. The only problem is that Christians in the United States seem to forget WHO the higher powers in the United States are…

I know what you’re thinking… “But, that scripture says we are not to fight against Obama or we go to Hell basically”

Um, no. Obama is not the “higher power” in the United States. He has a boss. That boss appointed him and has the power to fire him. That “higher power” is YOU.

I mean, really, do those scriptures LOOK like they are referring to Obama as the ruler or “we the people” as the ruler? Who answers to whom? That scripture makes more sense if you put Obama on the receiving end and “we the people” as the rulers. He should be afraid of US, not because we’ll bear a sword against him, but we’ll bear our ballots against him. When President Obama RESISTS the will of the people and the Constitution, HE is the one who will have wrath executed on him in November. He doesn’t execute his wrath on the people.

You see, when this nation was established, the CONSTITUTION and the PEOPLE were also established as the highest governing authorities in the United States. And yes, GOD’S hand was in it. One only has to see how a great revival helped plant the seeds of the Revolution and how men, as imperfect as they were, attempted to establish a nation that honored God, and protected the right to worship HIM. The story of George Washington alone is nothing short of miraculous. As the father of our nation, God had ordered his steps, protected his life and spoke through his heart and along with the influence of other Godly/Christian men, helped set the foundation for whom and what would reign supreme in the United States…and that was the PEOPLE… no president or congressmen can get where they are without being appointed by the people through their votes. So when God holds “kings” accountable to be judged, you and I and every American will answer to that. He appointed WE THE PEOPLE in 1789. God didn’t appoint Lincoln, Roosevelt, Reagan, Clinton, or Obama. THE PEOPLE DID. We will be held as much accountable (or more) for how they governed even more than they will.

Since there is no sovereign king in the U.S. with no heirs to inherit the “throne”, God doesn’t prepare a king’s heart. He prepares HIS people’s hearts…(the rightful “higher power”) through prayer, preaching and studying the word of God and educating ourselves on government and policy.

When our men and women in uniform swear an oath, it is NOT to protect the president or any government official. It is to protect, preserve and defend the CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES. Every government employee that takes the federal oath, pledges the same thing. We are not to “protect, preserve and defend” Obama and/or his agenda. To do that, if it differs from the Constitution, is to go against the Word of God, by not submitting to the “higher” powers/authorities. The President is held in check by the Constitution and the People. AND if he’s not held in check, it is the fault of the PEOPLE. Not congress, not the Supreme Court, but the fault of YOU and ME.

George Washington referred to our government leaders as our SERVANTS actually when he stated:

“The power under the Constitution will always be in the people. It is entrusted for certain defined purposes, and for a certain limited period, to representatives of their own choosing; and whenever it is executed contrary to their interest, or not agreeable to their wishes, their servants can, and undoubtedly will, be recalled.”

President Obama is not the authority in the United States that God appointed to do His will. He is simply where he is because the American people put him there.

I would imagine God is tired of getting blamed for it. Christians act like they are pre-destined robots or something. We still have a free will you know. How you live your life and who you vote for is your free will at work. God isn’t forcing anyone to do anything. It’s not how he operates.

God didn’t put Obama in power. God allowed him to be there, but He didn’t PUT him there… No more than HE hired that sorry employee in your company. YOU did that. Blaming Obama’s presidency on God, is like you hiring a lazy, no good worker for your business and then blaming God when that worker doesn’t show up or does a crappy job. Sounds ridiculous doesn’t it? Well, that’s how Christians sound when they say “Obama would be there if God hadn’t ordained it” NO, what God ordained was who would be born in this great nation. We are ALL kings and queens here (in that we hold the authority) and we will be held accountable for how we “reigned” over and governed this great nation that He bestowed upon us. So to leave the choosing of the policy makers up to non-Christians/sinners if you will, is to be a horrible HORRIBLE steward over this wonderful country that God blessed you with.

And one last note

There are several instances in scriptures where religious leaders inserted themselves to the governmental politics of the day. It isn’t unheard of and it is certainly Biblical.

What if Moses had your attitude and ignored the position God had placed him in POLTICALLY and chose not to address Pharaoh and lead the Israelites out of Egypt?
What would have happened? A WHOLE NATION, LOST.

What if Joseph had your attitude and ignored the position God had placed him in POLITICALLY and chose not to save the Hebrews and Egyptians from starvation and famine? A WHOLE NATION, LOST.

Remember Queen Esther? She wasn’t very political. AT ALL. She didn’t want to be involved and was rather repulsed by the idea. She was terrified, but she knew that blood of many innocent people would be on her if she DIDN’T speak out….and had she not had the courage and wisdom to speak truth to power to protect her people, they would have all perished. A WHOLE NATION, LOST.

Do you see a pattern here?

God allowed Esther to be there “for such a time as this”….and God has allowed us to HERE “for such a times as this”…. Will you have the courage of Esther, Moses, Joseph, and countless other Biblical examples and help save a nation, or will you continue to misuse the word of God as an excuse to stick your head in the sand and go on with your blissful life? You are not being asked to put your life on the line like Moses, Joseph or Esther. You are ONLY being asked to VOTE. What excuse have you now?

“If Christians would vote their duty to God at the polls, they would carry every election, and do it with ease. Their prodigious power would be quickly realized and recognized, and afterward there would be no unclean candidates upon any ticket, and graft would cease. If the Christians of America could be persuaded to vote God and a clean ticket, it would bring about a moral revolution that would be incalculably beneficent. It would save the country.”

Mark Twain, Colliers magazine, September 2, 1904

  1. Loved every word of it my patriot counterpart!

  2. How true. God does give us the rulers we choose and it is the fool who has the power to make a choice and does not that gets the most vile and distasteful of rulers. For there is a line in the Psalms which reads Evil rules all, when righteouse men do nothing at all. so to the none voting Christian stop spouting foolishness listen learn and do. Take ten minutes to read the Basic instruction book on living and ethical life. As indivudals as a nation We are at a cross roads one which will and could determine our future as a people. One which could lead us sadly to again do as our fore fathers did . We could face a civil war. There are today forces driving for division and seperation into groups of hyphenated americans those who place first another nation or ethic code above that of the Conistutition and the bill of rights.
when you have a leader who states that all you did was only becuase of what the government did for you you are in a terrible position. When you have a Senate which has for one thousand days done next to nothing and the Party with the man in power holds a majority. Then they point and blame the weaker for their failure. You are a people in grave danger. When you have a media that does not tell you the truth and you must look to foriegn nationals foriegn publication and broadcast to hear what is happening in your nation. you are in deep trouble. yes we are a nation divided seperated and losing our freedom and like the frog in the pan of cool water on the fire we are slowly being cooked and we gladly accet the fact.
Please excuse my long winded rant you said it all so well thank you..

Howbeit we are accountable for who we vote into Office we are such as if not more accountable for who we desire to be left in power”

  4. How can I share this?

  5. Brought tears to my eyes after reading this….
